to speak at the Hostelworld Hostelling Conference 2007 was brief but very pleasant. The event, the 3rd of its kind had a record attendance of about 350 hostel owners from around the world who came to the hospitable capital of the Emerald Isle to hear about Travel 2.0 in the Hostelling World. Hostelworld.com had arranged a program on various topics of interest to their constituency.
The company has grown a lot since its founding in 1999 and represents an effective distribution platform for thousands of hostels that without it would have a difficult time to find their audience. The gathering gave the impression of quite a close knit group of people working in a community type of environment very much capable of taking advantage of the social networking aspect of the web.
Their mostly young clients are very much the MySpace and YouTube users of today. In fact they are in the process of launching their new site which they previewed at the conference. It will feature an impressive range of web 2.0 tools and should find a great response in the hostelling world.
